Putting Members First Since 1874
Farmers Mutual Insurance Association was organized on March 2, 1874. We have been providing insurance services to the people of Mitchell County and the surrounding counties in Northern Iowa ever since. We originally started out insuring only against the perils of fire and lightning. As the needs of our clients has changed, so have we. We have since expanded our perils insured against to keep pace with the changing patterns of living and doing business.
On January 1, 2006 Saint Ansgar Mutual Insurance Association merged with Farmers Mutual Insurance Association to form one mutual. Saint Ansgar Mutual Insurance Association started out as German Farmers Mutual Insurance Association of Mitchell County. It was organized at the St John’s Lutheran Church in the Rock Creek area in December of 1881. In 1953, the name was changed to Saint Ansgar Mutual Insurance Association and they began offering wind insurance.
